Default Shifter adjustment procedure- Rearsets

I put on a set of aftermarket rearsets. Sometimes, I don't get a return when going to 2nd and therefore can't shift to 3rd. I've heard this is common on aftermarket rearsets and can only be solved by proper adjustment. However, I don't see any reason why mine is out of adjustment or binding and causing this issue. What should I look for?

I don't have aftermarket rearsets so I don't know the problem but by "no return" do you mean the shifter doesn't spring back to the standard position?

Which brand of rearsets is it?

That is correct. When it fails, it fails to return.

I'm not yet ready to talk about my rearsets. I plan to do a write-up on them. But know that I won't be giving them 2 thumbs up.

hmm, I dont know about the not returning. I had put Woodcraft rearsets on my F4i, and I did have several missed shifts, up and down, and that was do to my lever being misadjusted. I didnt think it was either, but just to eliminate the problem, I went ahead and adjsuted it and it did fix the problem.

I guess its possible if you are not getting enough "throw" on the shift lever, you may not get the shifter linkage to set and reset correctly. I may be worth a try to make a larger adjustment to shorten or lenthen the rod and see if it does make a difference.

I added some chain lube to the lever and was able to go a full ride today without a missed shift. Let's see what happens as time moves forward.

Wow, do the manufacturers know about this problem? You would think for $300+ it should only be minor adjustments.
