Default She got wet

Hello all,

So, on Wednesday we got torrential rain here and my bike was outside. I was at school and my bike was parked out in the open and got soaked.

I know that motorcycles can get wet, but is torrential rain a problem? The rain lasted about 45 minutes. My bike started up afterward and I was able to ride home without any problems.

Could this heavy rain caused any problems?

One thing I noticed is that now when I start the bike I have to blip the throttle or it will stall. It never did this before.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Motorcycles are designed to be in the rain every once in a while. Even heavy rain. That's why they don't rust easy. All your shiny metal parts are made of stainless or aluminum. Don't worry about it.

As far as the blipping throttle goes - what is your idle at? If it's low then turn it up. You might take out the air filter and make sure that it is clean and dry. Otherwise I'd wait it out and see if something got a bit wet and will dry on its own. Water sheds off of our bikes pretty well and all the really important stuff is under cover but if you rode it in the rain you may have water in the intake or under the seat where the battery is. Unlikely but possible. Give it a few days and see what happens.

Thanks for the replies.

As for the air filter being wet, any idea on how long it takes for it to dry, or since it possibly got wet, should I just replace it?

The heavy rain happened on Wednesday and it is now Saturday. It has been like 87F everyday since and I rode the bike Thursday and Friday. Today, I went to start the bike and it got a little better, but when the bike first starts up and if I blip the throttle, the exhaust sounds like a lawnmower, until about after 30 seconds of idling, then it will sound normal.

Is the exhaust sound/possible wet air filter all related? How long does it take for a wet air filter to dry in like 87F weather?

Should I replace my air filter now that it possibly got wet?

Thanks for any help.

Yeah, I thought the title was a nice catch phrase, but I don't want to get booted for any XXX action.

She only got wet this time because of the rain!

Only thing I can really think of, not sure if it affects anything.. your exhaust is a great angle for water to go right in and fill up if its sitting in the rain long enough. Running its not a problem because the pressure doesn't allow it to enter. Think of farm vehicles with straight up stacks.. theres reason they have flappers when they are not running. I noticed my bike sounded and acted kinda weird after washing it one time.. now I try to avoid the pipe.
