I noticed that when I remapped the PCIII that I picked up an extra 10 degrees or so across the board (obviously a leaner map).
Approx. 180 hwy. (in 95 degree heat), 220 in town/stop & go (again, 95 degree heat). |

Check your coolant, and make sure your fan is coming on around 225. You might need a coolant flush

man i am in florida and it seems like if i have to wait at a light for more than 30 seconds my fan is kicking on(225+). these things get hot during these summer days. you should be fine as long as your fan is coming on and it is cooling it off. but cruising at about 30-35 my temp is around 215. and no you do not have to wait for your bike to hit 190 to ride. what are you thinking

well i drained and flushed the radiator last saturday and filled with engine ice. It has dropped it down to about 195-201 on hwy but as the above person said, mine too at a light will quickly jump up to temps to make the fan come on.

Did you burp the radiator good?...if you didnt then it might have an air bubble in it because engine ice should have you cooler than that on the hwy...i would say 182-190 is the normal for mine on the hwy...i have a fan switch on mine so i can turn my fan on and run redlight to redlight in traffic and keep it 205 give or take a few degrees as i go and stop. |

Let it idle for 20 minutes then check back... nobody's bike stays that cold unless they're running on full engine ice, even then i'd doubt it. engine temperature doesn't depend on outside air temperature as much as it depends on air flow around the radiator. I've hit 225 on days when i was riding at 30F outside.
the thermostat starts to open around 160. It is fully open around 180 or 185. Fan switch usually kicks on at 225 or so, however that's 225F coolant exiting the engine. The Radiator fan switch activates when temperature inside the radiatior reaches 208 (per shop manual) Rarely do these bikes get up over 230, however, you're safe to ride them up to 251 indicated. |
