Runnin' Hot?

Hey all,
First 70 degree day of the season! Finally! Anyway, my bike seems to be runnin' a little hot. Aux fan still kicking in at around 226ish, but when I ride, temp not going down as fast as usual.

Then I stop at a light or something, and the temp shoots up pretty quickly!

Checked the coolant reservoir and it looks pretty bone dry, so I'm assuming I just need to add some.......so, any suggestions on the type of coolant to use? Or, what are you using? Mixture as well? :icon_shrug:Something about the type that's safe to use on aluminum block, correct?

Thx in advanced!

I bet you can use the search function to find this answer. I think Honda makes their own coolant, or maybe they just buy some and put their name on it. I'm not sure exactly. However, if your coolant disappeared over the winter you may want to look for leaks in your system.

You are definitely low on coolant, I wouldn't ride anymore until you put some in.

Your temp seems to be fine. These bikes run pretty hot. My F4i would get to 232-233 and wouldn't flinch. I would think as long as your bike does not get above 240F then your fine.

you can switch the Thermo-switch out for one off a '93 Nissan Pulsar and drop 15-20 degrees (*F) off your running temps. Though, I would definitely fill the system as well as look for leaks.

Granted, you should have checked your fluids before ever taking the bike out for the first ride of the season. If your coolant had leaked out over winter, it should have been caught in you pre-ride inspection...though, I also realize that with Honda's making reliable bikes, it can be pretty easy to get lazy with doing pre-ride inspections.
