Restricting my 06 F4i...
Hey guys and girls.
The question is: Here in the Uk, If you pass your motorcycle test before the age of 21, you are restricted to 33bhp for 2 years, or untill your 21st birthday (which ever comes first).
I want to know that by the bike being restricted, does it hurt the bike mechanically in any way by all the power being choked up?
The bike is restricted by the throttle not being able to be pulled back all of the way ( pic attached ( not of my bike but I think it's the same method of restriction )
I know people on the net always talk about de restricting it before the 2 years are up but it is technically breaking the law, Just like internet downloading ( but I'm sure no one on here downloads anything illegally OF COURSE).
I would like to know - if you know - what the legallities on restriction proof there are, for example do you need papers to prove it and also when the restriction runs out, do you have to let the licensing authorities know?
I only ask because it's going to kill me having all that power cooped up for two years, especially if it's going to be damaging to the bike.
Thanks for any replies, Tom.
P.S - The pics are of the throttle cable in the restricted position and also the position of the un-restricted position.
P.S.S - The component is from a BMW F650 gs

I believe that throttle restriction would not cut it off at 4200rpms, It would still be able to rev high, it would just take 3 times or so the time to get there.

It's called your right hand.
I'd restrict it for inspections, then just remove it when you're riding. A cop isn't going to be able to say "You accelerated too fast, your bike isn't restricted", and even if he pulls you ever for fun, isn't going to think you're not restricted.
Explain why that wouldn't work?
