Repowder-coating rims (GTA)

Hey guys

Just looking for some advice/opinions from people who have first hand knowledge of powder-coating motorcycle rims.

I'm interested in a CBR that is currently owned by a woman. She had the rims powder-coated barbie pink. Obviously as a guy I can't ride it with girly rims, but what I would like to know is:

Can the rims be repowder-coated?

Does powder-coating weaken the structural integrity of a rim?

Can you recommend a place in the GTA that would do a respectable job at a fair price?

Thanks in advance!

I'm from Cambridge (not too far from the GTA) and I have a bunch of places here that can do it. (I work at a custom shop)

Yes they can be powdercoated another colour. They just need to be chemically stripped first. (we charge like $75 or so) and then re-done. Maybe cost $200 at the most for bike wheels.

Does not weaken the wheel in anyway. I've powdercoated forged wheels and cast wheels. Powdercoating temps are usually around 450 degrees, which is waaaay lower than cast and forged wheels are made at.

thanks 4dgs. Does your company have a website or anything?

for the price you could just buy new(used) ones. around here its at the very least 50 bucks a rim. and u have to have the tires off and youll need to put new bearings in, which adds up to more cost-used f4i rims can be had for almost 100 a set if you look hard enough

Our site is being reworked at the moment. It's called Rockstar Motorsports in Cambridge. We actually have a lambo orange F4i in the show room Wooot.

But yea vangill is right, by the time you peel the tires and and get them done you will probably surpass what stock wheels are worth. The only reason I would do it personally is to go with a new custom colour for the wheels.

What you could do (done this many times) pull the wheels off and spray paint them. Sounds ricer and lame but it works great, just prep them well and use duplicolor wheel coating. If done right it can look as good as stock.

If you want more info on that let me know. My 350Z currently has painted wheels on it and nobody knows at all.... :D
