Removing/propping up the fuel tank
I have a 06 F4i and in a lot of the maintenance guides I see the fuel tank needs to be propped up in order to get to the air box and everything underneath (e.g. the CCTL mod/fix). In a lot of these pics I see that it is being strung up my some bungee cords attached to the back hooks near the rear seat. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this? what length of bungee should I use? Does this method mean that nothing from the underside of the fuel tank is actually disconnected?
I think there are 4 bolts holding the fuel tank down (2 in front, 2 in back) after you take off the fairings and air duct covers, do I need to remove these four in order to do this?

you only need to remove the 2 in front and loosen the 2 in back.
get the short cords.... i got mine at walmart or target. you take off the seat...loosen the lower 2 bolts, and then you remove the upper 2 bolts. you should be able lift your tank up and down.
take off your rear seat/trunk.... you should see some places where your cord can hook onto. Connect the cords to the front holes of the tank.

It's just the 4 bolts two 8mm up front and two 12mm in back. Be careful when lifting the tank, the two front holes have metal inserts in the rubber bushings that can fall out and its a pain trying to retrieve them sometimes. You need to remove the seat as well. All of the connections under the tank can stay connected no need to remove them.
As far as a specific length of bungee I just use some kind of rope or twine and lace it through the front holes and then secure it to the sub frame like you have seen in pictures. Hope this helps

how do I turn off the fuel? and what's the best way to avoid cracking/splitting it? do you still recommend propping it up like everyone else?
Oh that's right... No fuel shut off valve on F4"i". You'll want to either syphon off most of your fuel or wait til your tank is empty if you want to lessen the chance of fuel going everywhere.
Yeah, propping it up is fine. Do it slowly & carefully. You may want to clamp the lines just in case of rupture.

You don't need to completely remove the Air Duct covers in order to get the tank up. Just remove the #5 Allen Bolts and pop the tabs out of the rubber grommets on the tank. Side fairings can stay on no need to remove anything.
