Removing gas from tank

Hey guys... I am currently taking my tank off for it to get painted and i siphoned what i could out of it and when i took off the bolt that goes to the fuel rail i got a little more out.. There is still a little gas left in the tank... Any suggestinos of getting the rest out with out opening it up and turning it upside down and shaking it would be a great.

Thanks

Did you pull the drain tube off the bottom of the tank?

I had to do the same thing not too long ago. I did what you did, took the bolt out from the bottom. I couldn't get all the gas out that way either and I had everything unplugged from the bottom. I had to leave it turned upside down for a little and there was still gas in there. When I was sanding I just taped up the gas hole on top and just let what was left of the fuel drain out from the bottom. But this was my 1st time removing the tank myself so other people may have the correct way to drain the fuel. Good luck.

Shake it down to the bottom? I'm not sure what would work. Leave it open and try to let it evaporate is my guess.

Yeah im not sure about the plug on the bottom that was brought up? i have all the hoses disconnected and nothing really comes out.. I am going to try to turn it upside down after i take the cap off over a bucket and slowly move it back and forth.. Hopefully that will be the ticket.

Run the bike as dry as you can, and then remove the hose from the fuel pump to the motor and the fuel will drain out. The three hoses under the bike won't do squat for removing gas.

+1 what Aken said. Then, leave tank setting out to evap.

Are we talking about the hose that had the bolt in it? Or the one that comes off the L shaped piece on the bottom of the pump?

Aken 01-18-2010 06:35 PM

The one off the L-shape. That tube itself directly off the pump should only be like 8" long (IIRC).

Thanks.. That will be Wednesdays project when im home.
