Rekey Gas Cap

Rekey Gas Cap
Has anyone had their gas cap rekeyed - I'm 90% certain it's afactory gas cap (looking at other bikes), however it uses an entirely different key than my ignition key (different shape). - I am wondering if it's worth the bother of taking it to a locksmith to see if they can replace the cylinder and match my ignition key (one less thing hanging off my keychain).

RE: Rekey Gas Cap
StreetDemon - thanks for the info... - I will take it in.- Did you take your cap off and bring it into the locksmith, or did they do the change on the bike?
Glocker - I'd try some oil on the key and in the lock - as the key wears it may cause it to jam. - At least that's the case for auto locks, etc.- If that has already been tried and didn't work you may want to see if graphite lubricant would help too...

RE: Rekey Gas Cap
Damn 15 bucks thats it!! I have a key stuck in my gas tank ( it almost sticks out so I just have to put the other key in a 1/8 of an inch and turn it to gas up) But its really annoying and ghetto! for some reason the OEM key was really flimsy and bent alot before it broke. Im just glas it broke off in the tank and not the ignition!!! Ill put it on the "to-DO" list for this winter!! I need to get extra copies made anyway as I am using my backup now.
