Default Redo Fork internals or Swap forks on F4i

Hi,

I'm hoping that i can get some sound or personal experience advice on my forks for my f4i street fighter.

I have a dirtbike handle bar it on. I use it for commuting and for canyon running. No more trackdays on it. When I used to do track days with it, the forks were obviously undersprung for my weight, 200 lbs with full gear. Even now up in the canyons, the forks dive way more than my 05 ZX6r. So i plan on doing some work on it when I get back from Afghanistan.

Should I spend about $500 for new spring, compression valve, rebound valve, oil, seals for the OEM forks? Or should I go with a 929/954 front end swap? I know most of the stunters do the swap due to the rigidity of the inverted forks for stoppies.

Please advice. The f4i will only see street miles with canyon runs. I don't need it to be track ready.

well i went for an easy fix! i got new ohlins springs and a ohlins 20mm rebound/dampener kit. but if you want to do the whole conversion be my guest. i think i spent about 450 for the springs and 20mil kit.

For your purposes, you could probably get by with just springs F/R.

The fork swap will change some of the bike dimensions slightly, thus changing the way it handles. If you enjoy the way the bike performs now, just want a stiffer front end, I'd stick with the new guts. If you want the looks and can deal with readjusting to some new handling, go for the swap. Chances are both will cost you around the same.

Personally I'd go for the new guts, because I'm very used to my F4i as it is, and wouldn't want any surprises when I've got my knee almost to the ground.
