Rattle

Hi I have just bought a 2002 f4i and its only done 5000 miles. On reving the engine as I back the throttle off I can hear a slight rattle from the top front of the engine. It sounds like something loose but before I start taking fairings off etc I just wondered if this was normal. Someone said it could be the hydraulic lifter need adjusting? Not sure thats correct on a bike with so little milage?
Thanks

Hi, not sure what a hydraulic lifter is on your bike, but it could be the Cam Chain Tensioner, don't think it would need a valve clearance check with only 5000 miles on the clock, just check if its an automatic CCT or a manual one:)

Thanks. How will I find out if it's automatic tensioner?

Hi , a manual one looks like this
BP 1999-2006 Honda CBR 600 F4 F4i Blue Manual Cam Chain Adjuster Tensioner | eBay
and an automatic one looks like this
GENUINE HONDA CAM CHAIN TENSIONER LIFTER 1999-2006 CBR600F4 F4i (REVISED)

OK thanks for that will have a look tomorrow. Just you tubed and mine foesnt sound as bad as the ones on there. It's just a rattle in the last power down from 3000 - 1500rpm. Could it be because the bike has only done 400 miles in the past 2 years. Might just need a good run?

There are no hydraulic lifters on the bike. A rattle as you describe would not be the CCTL either. Its either valve clearance or normal enough none of us notice it to worry about.
