Default Rain and your Chain

Hey all,

After work today I decided to strap on the backpack and head to the store for some Oil and a filter. I checked the weather, and it was SUPPOSED to be clear for hours past when I'd be out. After I left the store I was about halfway home when I was caught up in my first Torrential Downpour while riding. It was so bad I couldn't see 5 feet in front of me. This was not a problem as I was stuck in bumper to bumper! Luckily enough there was a movie theater with a nice big overhang I hid under. Coincidentally after about a half hour there were 4 other Bikes under that same overhang, including a 600rr Graffiti Long story short: I was wondering if there is anything special you guys do when your out in the rain like that? Do you clean your chain after something like that? I only ask because I have a friend who was just caught in the rain, and now his chain sounds like it's grinding.

My bike has had to sit out in the weather so far (I know, shame on me) and I haven't had any problems. If you're concerned, lubing it wouldn't hurt.

You should have a layer of oil on your chain to help repel water, dirt etc. If you have a rear stand for your bike you should atleast dry it off with a cloth, and spray some chain lube on rag, and wipe her down. If a chain is rusting from getting caught in one rain storm, imho it has not been maintained properly. Just my 2 cents !

You are right about this, when I spoke to my friend about it, he told me he'd pushed the chain a whole SEASON further than he should have!! While I would never do something like that, I just wondered if there was some standard practice you guys had when it came to coming in out of the rain. Thanks for the Feedback guys

Standard practice: go in and put on a dry pair of pants
