R1 wheels/fork swap
So I used to be on here a little, a few years ago, with an F4i. I sold it to a buddy, but recently bought it back. In the mean time, I had, and sold, an R1. I had a set of track wheels for the R1. I kept them when I sold the bike. I also came up on a set of FZ-1 fork tubes a while back. I decided to scrounge up all the rest of the front end parts and see if I can get it on the F4i. I am using clip ons and triples and wheels from an R1, with FZ-1 fork tubes and FZ-1 brakes. I am a little concerned with the clip ons, cause normally R1 clip ons go below the triple and the F4i go above. I have not measured yet, but my thought is that the F4i has a shorter steerer perhaps?
As for the rear wheel, I am having spacers machined to reduce to the F4i axle. Chain line is already perfect, I think I can even use the stock, honda brake. we shall see. I will post pics soon.
I have not started any actual work, it is currently just a pile of parts and an idea.

i could give you a fairly good measurement on the diameter and length of the stock forks if you need.
otherwise bike geometry is a different story it seems they made the f4i as their 600cc RR before the RR so they balanced the stability with the stock length.
you can always shorten it up on the tripple if they are too long allowing plenty of clip on space.
you're putting 190 rears on it? im not sure how that would affect it overall, that is interesting.. better a rim than an oversized tire.
or you say race, are they 200? you have the clearance on your swing arm?
also if your forks are longer and you are in more preload wouldn't you have more chance to pogo? prolly not but curious

Well, I have done some measuring and there are def some issues. First, if you look at the F4i lower triple clamp, it is flat and the fork tubes stick up out of the upper crown. The lower R1 crown dips down to grab the fork legs. So if I slip the legs up high enough thru the top crown to get the R1 clip ons to fit, then the lower clamp goes below its clampable area on the fork leg. In turn, if I just put the R1 clipons below the crown, then you cant steer, cause of the air intake covers on the F4i. I am looking onto other methods. Maybe different crowns off different bikes. We shall see.
As for fork length, I can adjust the R1 to equal the F4i fork length, well, I mean, the for legs are the same length, but obviously because of the crowns, the R1 front end is higher. I CAN get it down enough on the F4i, but the clip ons still wont work. Of course I can get clip on risers, but I do not want to spend the extra money.
As for tire, I am using a 190 on the rear. The chain line is perfect. And yes, it will raise the back a little, but only a little, and I can adjust that to be ever with the fork. And yes, the 190 clears just fine.

Well, mostly cause I have the parts. Also, I think the 3 spoke wheel is so ugly. I really like the 5 spoke yamaha. Honestly, I am selling this bike in the spring and getting a new bike. At that time I will be putting the stock wheels and for back on. Stuff like this adds no value. So yea, mostly for looks, but the fork will be better than the F4i fork, stiffer and better brakes.
