Question about oil, Brands and type??????
Now I am a service nut when it comes to my bike I change my oil every two months when its riding season here in pa so it about 3-4 oil changes a year. An my bike is an 01 with only 8000 miles. The question I have is what kind of oil do you guys use. I have been using Royal Purple 10W 40 and K&N Oil Filters since i'v owned this bike. Now this is my first sportbike but I ride motocross and i'v had pleanty of dirt bikes, and atv's. Now with this (all honda also) you cannot use synthetic oil because it actually damages the clutch. Now can I use synthetic on this bike a 2001 f41? I have read my service manual and It does not touch on that subject.

RE: Question about oil, Brands and type??????
Right in the service manual it recommends the GN4 or the HP4 Honda Pro Oils lube. The HP4 is a synthetic blend without moly, which I believe is the key if you go with a blend or full synthetic to make sure it is without moly. I've been running HP4 since the first oil change and have had no problems engine or transmission. 60% of my miles at the track.
Hope this helps.

I'm currently on the 10W-40 GN4 lube, but just purchased a case of the 10W-40 HP4 w/o moly lube, the latter being of a synthetic blend. Synthetic oil is kosher so long as you use something w/o moly, which wouldn't be good for a system like the F4i that uses a wet clutch operation, at least from what I was told by several motorcycle mechanics. I'll post up on what I think of the Honda synthetic as soon as I do the next lube/filter change.
