Default question about headlight

Hey bikers..
I just got this new 06 F4i. I have few doubts!

1. Headlight - when I switch on the ignition only one of the two headlights is ON. When i switch to high beam then both the lights lit. Is this normal? it looks pretty weird to drive with one headlight on and I hate to drive on high beam in city.

2. Hard Gear shifting - The first 3 gears make little harder sound when shifting. Is it because the bike is brand new and it will smoothen out later?

3. Any precautions during break-in? - The dealer told me that there is no breaking in for this bike and I can drive the way I want. Your suggestions? anything perticular?

4. Fuel - The owners manual says 86 (or 85+, forgot) octane fuel. Should I put in higher octane fuel or just regular 87 is fine?

5. Security - I am planning to buy an Internatrix TW-400. Read a lot about it around and I think its worth the price. Anything better in the same price range u would suggest? I will then just add one flashy chain and lock to add little more security.

6. Mileage - What mileage you people generally get frm this bike?

Any perticular maintanace tip for this new biker?

Too much at once, its ok if u reply in few words! Will appreciate.
-Jay

Search for better answers but

lo beam and high beam have different patterns and different reflectors, seems like it makes sense, but I don't know.

gear change is notchy, will be easier after a while, synth oil helps. shift faster, rev higher, shift with authority, don't baby it.

break-in, follow the manual.

87

security- 9mm

46mpg

HAHA, I like your security option. I prefer a 40 cal though. If they want your bike they will get it. I've heard a few cases of people not having their bikes stolen because they locked the bars.

Fish if you're getting 46mpg, you're not getting on it hard enough

thats the problem with being 45 years old...or maybe that's why I survived 45 years of cars, bikes, booze, and women. I like to say I am pacing myself.

Low beam only uses one head light on the f4i and both lights for the high beam. You can buy lower wat bulbs if you prefer to keep the high beam on. As for the guy who said synthetic oil would ease the shifting, I was told not to use synthetic oil for a good 2000 miles. I guess it puts too much stress on a new motor or something.[sm=badidea.gif]

Agreed. I should have mentioned that after the motor and tranny were broke in real good.

I love the look of only one head light, of course I am sick of people waving, yelling, flagging me down and telling me I have a head light out.

Side question: Are you a new rider?
If so GET FULL GEAR. motorcycle grade leather/textile Jacket, Pants, Boots, Gloves, SNELL Helmet
Also if you haven't already, take the MSF course.
Enjoy your F4i !
