Default Purchasing an older F4i

I had a 2000 CBR f4 with 22k miles. It ran good when I got it. 3k miles later, I needed a new head, it overheated a lot, broke the throttle cable, etc. Basically, the bike went to hell. Now I'm looking at this 2001 F4i. Which I know it is fuel injected, so it helps the situation I hope. It has a little under 20k miles, so I'm kinda worried to buy it. What do you guys think ? How many miles are on your f4i ? And, what are some things I can look for to turn me away from buying it if I need to ? Rattles, ticks, leaks, etc. I just don't want to make another costly mistake. I want a newer bike, but I doubt my bank will approve a loan to a teenager with a car loan already out there.

I have a little over 239k miles on mine (no, not a typo)..... runs like brand new, still doing trackdays with it. F4i's are a tank, you pretty much cannot kill them. You're old bike prob would have been fine had it not been overheated.... gotta watch stuff like that, and ANY bike (or any vehicle period, for that matter) will have probs if it's overheated badly

Only thing that ever really gives probs on F4i's is the CCT, just like pretty much any Honda, lol. Get an APE manual tensioner and you'll never have another prob with it. Other than that, not really much of anything. Mine is still ridden daily and as reliable as they come... I'd still ride it cross country without a worry in the world

20k is absolutely nothing on these bikes, so long as it's not something like a stunt bike or anything and it's been maintained, like any bike. Look it over good, if it's been cared for don't worry about the mileage

I bought a CCT for my F4, but never put it on. Will it work on the f4i ? I almost guarantee it should.

Yes it's the same.. My old F4 had a bit over 26k on her when I sold her.. She was running as good as new. My f4i had just under 5500 miles on her...good as new.. They are awesome bikes. Reliable, fun, and fast. Your F4 overheated and I guess you warped the head... That happens... But rarely...

Don't look at the mileage as much as the bike itself.
Good luck

Yea, he wants 3000. For it. I'ma try and talk him down to 28 or so. I'm getting him to meet me in the middle. About an hour ride for both of us. So, hopefully that will show me that the bike is good for that distance, and it will be nice and warmed up for my test ride.

^^^ Absolutely. Jared is a long time member here w/ the info to back it up. Do searches on his old threads/posts. There are plenty of pics.

Here ya go! Being a 5 digit odo obviously it doesn't show the "2", but you get the idea

Mine has 25,000 km and all I've done to it is routine maintenance and the cam chain tensioner (yesterday). Like Jared proves everyday, bullet proof...
