Protective/casual gear?
 

I'm not new to bikes but I'm not informed on protective gear. Ive had spine issues for several years so I'm buying some armor mainly for the spine plate. From what I've read it can be worn under clothing.

My trips will be back and forth through the mountains during the summer so jeans wont do.

What can I do for leathers? I'm 6'0 and 220lbs so I don't want some $600 yellow jumpsuit. I want a jacket and pants that look everyday, but give me good protection. I don't need to look good, used is fine.

I'm mulling over some new armor and a good used leather jacket. Ive got gloves.
But pants/boots...not sure

I'm in the same boat. I can wear jeans, but I'd like a nice leather coat, and some boots that can be walked around it comfortably, but still look like they belong on a crotch rocket, and aren't too expensive.

You could try textile jackets and pants. Lighter weight, cooler, and a lot more affordable. There are riding jeans out there too but I don't know how much protection those offer.

I got a leather jacket too, but got sick of wearing it ALL the time.

With this, I can throw this on, then pick any sweatshirt or hoody I have and at least not look the freaking same every time I ride.

It is a TON of protection, much more then a standard jacket.

I've been considering my options for casual protection for a bit now. Given I don't see myself frequenting a track or mountain pass with any regularity, I doubt I'll invest in a full suit any day soon. I've been looking at options that are 1) protective in daily riding circumstances 2) inconspicuous enough that I don't look like I'm searching for the nearest ComiCon.

For leg protection I was considering continuing to wear work pants like Carhartt or (real) Dickies that have the reinforced knee panels. And then going with impact armor underneath that for the legs. T-Pro Forcefield Pro Pants are very high on my list, followed by Bohn Bodyguard Armored Pants.

I will continue wearing an armored jacket under all circumstances. I'll just have to scrape my pennies till I can afford what I want in a jacket, which will prolly be something from Dainese. I haven't decided whether I want to supplement my jacket till I get a new jacket. If I do, it will definitely be T-Pro Body Armor Forcefield Back Protector. The reviews of this have been outstanding for both comfort and protection.

Boots I've taken care of already, thanks to my girlfriend. Extra Christmas present were a pair of Dainese Quito Leather Shoes. It's too cold to ride right now here in Philly. But I've been sneaking my feet into them, wishing I could convince my job they need to replace our workboots. They are more comfortable than my Timberlands. if only they were rated for electrical hazards and steel toe :(

theres no any everyday looking protective gear. You have leather n you have textile, leather is always better.

Everyday? No, not if its gonna protect worth a damn. But speaking for myself, I don't like the half open race suit while sitting at the dinner table look.

For daily commutes, meeting friends out and trips over to buddies' houses full race attire is too much. Obviously, I'm gonna sacrifice some protection trying to maintain a more casual look. But I also plan to sacrifice some of my performance as well, not riding my bike to its (or my) full capacity. Hopefully anyone trying to casual it down realizes the same.
