Powerloss Problem

Today on the way home from work my 02' F4i was shutting off. The Tack would drop to zero and the F4i light would come on. I would refer to that as resetting. So my bike keeps resetting as I drive. I'm not sure whats wrong, I don't have very much bike experience yet. It was fine for most of the ride. I'm thinking its getting to hot. My bike is usually at a temperature of 80 or just under. Is that a normal temperature? I'm not sure what else could be the problem, wiring, or an air filter? Any help would be nice.

I had that happen to me recently too.

I'm not sure what it was. I adjusted the gas drainage hose (it'd been pinched under the tank a little) but I really don't think that helped much. It may have just been bad gas.

I hope you find out what the problem was; I'll keep an eye here to see what happens, even though my bike seems to be working OK now.

Assuming 80 is in Celsius that's normal (around 176F which is cruising temp). Dunno the celsius equivalent but us yanks don't really begin to worry till we hit 230F+ (stop and go traffic temp). And overheat is 250F

Me, and a few other members have had that problem. I've narrowed it down to bad gas, and since not buying from that station, I haven't had the problem since.

Is the bike completely dieing out? Does it go from running perfectly to no power at all? When you say its resetting, is it like it just turned off and back on again?

I had all these symptoms soon after I bought my bike. The previous owner said he installed a new battery, which he did, although he did not tighten down the terminals enough. After a few weeks of riding on of the battery terminals was only finger tight. So it was just like I was disconnecting and reconnecting the battery over and over again while I was riding.

I think it was the battery, we only tightened it a quarter turn each and it didn't have any problems today. Hopefully it stays good.

I's definitely say it's the battery cables

I've only had the FI light come on when it was the gas. However, I've had the battery issue as well. Two simple fixes.
