Poor mileage....
2002 CBR600F
Today I was riding and noticed my reserve was on. Problem is, I had only done around 63 miles. I filled up a couple miles later and got over 13 litres in the tank. That’s appalling mileage!
I am a heavy rider, I get the revs way past 10,000 often and ride it hard.
surely this still isn’t enough to drive the mileage down so much!!?

Wow Liam, that is very thirsty.
Not sure is the honest answer to you question but would think even riding it hard should not be that bad.
How many miles are on her?
When was the last time the valves were checked? Are you smelling fuel to suggest she might be running rich?

43k miles I believe. Weird that I can’t remember.
I know the valves were checked but I need to check the paper work to give you an answer on when.
The exhaust gasses smell strong tbh. It’s an aftermarket straight through pipe so no surprise there. It doesn’t smell like petrol though. I’m guessing an leaks along the way would be quite telling too. We all know what petrol smells like and even a little of it is pungent enough to notice.
when cold, she warms up at 3k revs. Never had a bike idle that high even when cold, unless it had a manual choke.
there are no rough spots when throttling and she feels fine when I ride. No clutch slip. Tires aren’t excessively low on air if at all. Even if I had a bad air filter, poor plugs and a rich running engine, I still wouldn’t expect such low mileage.
I bought her recently and the first fill up I did was because reserve came on at 100 miles. I was running on fumes at 120 miles. I thought that was strange but put it down to riding hard. I can’t wrap my head around < 25 MPG

I would expect the 100-120 miles on a tank is you are hammering it, 120-150 if taking it easy, but as you say not the 65 ish....
These will rev at c,3k revs when cold mine does the same for a little while, I tend not to let mine warm up, start, jump on and ride.

I’m the same. No wasting time or fuel. I get straight on. If it were running rich, would I struggle to get up to temp? Yesterday I hit 110degrees in 20 degree sunny weather. Doesn’t take long to warm up at all.
That only leaves a leak but surely I’d smell it???

it runs like a dream. All through the Rev range!
where should I start looking for a leak?
perhaps I should double check it isn’t running super rich too. Do these bikes have an O2 sensor?

I'd start with the tank and work my way down from there. I know that sounds simplistic but if it is a leak it should be pretty easy to see. Concerning the O2 sensor question, I believe only the California models have them. I'm not dead certain on that but I am pretty sure.
the bike was sat for 3+ weeks while I fixed another issue so a leak would make sense. Perhaps I didn’t get a low MPG and I instead just had less fuel. I’ll have to look but no idea when. I hate taking the fairings off bikes!
