Painting Question

Hey Guys,

So I want to paint over / repaint my tail cowl fairing. It has ugly flames on it and I want to paint the whole piece gloss black to match the rest of my F4i. I already got a quote from a local bike painter to do the following:

to "undo" whats already there: (75 for one hour)
then epoxy prime it, wetsand the epoxy primer then spray black base coat and then 2 coats of high solids clear (75 for one hour)
then materials (40)

This totals 190, which seems a bit high to me to just paint a piece of plastic that goes on the back seat. Is this normal for this kind of thing? Is there a cheaper option? Any help / recommendations greatly appreciated...

That's about right man. Paint jobs are not cheap, and if you do pay a cheap price then it is most likely going to look cheap.

Z posted a real good DIY thread a while back. you wont get it perfect your first time, but you'll gain some experience for when/if you want to do it again down the road.

If you know how to do the bodywork right you could always sand and prime it yourself and just have him shoot the paint on it, although in my experience he probably won't warranty it due to him not knowing how good the primer was put on.
