Painting my bike Primer?

I had a question hows the best way to paint your bike a white color. Me and my friend are trying to do a decent paint with spray cans. what process do I need to do like sanding, first primer, and then something brighter. please let me know I am on a budget just trying to do a decent white color.

well its not going to look good if you use a spray can. your going to get tiger stripes. if you want to do it right with the primer your going to need to get a primer that you need to mix in catalyst and shoot out of a gun.

Time! Take your TIME! that is the best thing. It really is best to do it with a spray gun and many different paints, thinners, hardeners to choose from, to get that even spray.

Since it sounds like you are going to do it with a rattle can due to a budget, and you are set on doing it, then Take Your Time, do not rush it!

purpleslug has a good point about tiger stripes, but you can avoid this with even strokes and how you apply it. As for looking good, myself over the years and friends have done the rattle can get by for now paint jobs. you can do it. There are a couple good articles on technique, simply google it. 10-16" away work top left to the right and work your way down to bottom right with sweeping even strokes. Too fast will/can cause the tiger stripes, and a very uneven application of paint, too slow will cause runs.

Practice on some cardboard or something to get a feel for your left to right stroke.

Best of Luck and post some pics!

Here are some pics of an '86 Honda Rebel 250 I rattle canned 2 years ago.
