Painting Gray the covers? What do you suggest?

Hey all,
OK. I've got an '02 Silver/Red paint scheme. Haven't seen any discussions regarding this but here goes.

Am I the only one who can't stand the dark grey color of these plastic covers right behing the upper cowl ?(the ones that install between the cowl and the tank). This is the only part on the bike that is this color, as everything else on the bike is silver, red and black.

If you take a look at some of the newer RR's, these are painted to match the body color. Anyway, I'm considering painting these (professionally). Has anyone done this?

And, what color do you suggest? Silver (to match the cowl and tank and create a seamless look between the two) or Black (to blend with the frame)?
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks All!:icon_shrug:

I think black would look best. I'm afraid there would be too much silver if you went that route. Although I've never seen them silver so I don't really know.

I am in the process of painting mine gloss black right now. I will post up pictures in the next few days once the clear coat has cured a little bit more. You will want to lay down some adhesion promoter first, and then a few layers of filler primer followed by sanding to get rid of the plastic texture.

A guy around here painted his silver but he didn't prep them right so they looked like crap and the silver was peeling off.
