paint question
Is it possible to sand my fairings down and tank and spray paint my bike white? If so what would be the best way to do it? If it ends up being to complicated ill just get it done profesionally
|
yes it is Im going to do it this weekend on My 02 F4i.
if your plastic is unpainted put a good scuff on it with a fine grit paper seal it with a good primer and paint away.:icon_wink: of coarse you want to make sure you remove your stickers if you still have any and I advice a good hardner for your tank gas on a fresh paint job is murder:icon_doh: |
well my fairings look like they have a matte black..and the tank is the original yellow with stickers...what should i sand these with to get the paint off? any paint brands suggested?

sandpaper
and krylon |
i wouldnt...I recently repainted one of my friends bikes that the previous owner spray painted.

that was the color with spray paint and the spray clear coat? how much did you pay for a new paint job?
|
Im Not going to use Krylon I'm using lacquer.
1 quart primer = $45 1 quart midnight pearl blue = $56 1 pint pearl white (not got it yet :icon_shrug: ) 1 pint hardner = $35 1 gallon thinner = $35 1 quart clear = $85 |
Are you goint to be using a spray gun? I think i am going to just do it my can. Is there clear coat that is gas resistant in stores?
|
You can use spray paint with white, but it wont look as good as base coat clear coat sprayed with a spray gun. Scuff it up using a grey scotchbrite pad. Make sure it looks dull when your finished. No gloss remaining at all. Wipe it down with wax and grease remover.
Spray it with acrylic lacquer enamel spray paint. Its pretty durable. If you want to spray clear coat out of a can use du pont cut in clear. You can get the paint pretty much anywhere. For the clear coat you will have to go to KOI or Car Quest. |
I'd scuff it with like a 400, then go to NAPA and pick out a nice urethane color you like. They did have "crossfire" brand urethanes made by martin senour, but now I think they have all "5 star" products. I'd get a primer there, too (I like the "xtreme" 2k hybrid epoxy).
I think paint/primer is roughly $40/qt with hardener last time I checked. Can't remember what clear is, but it will likely be a little bit more. This method requires a gun, but I've seen some people do nice work with spray bomb stuff. Not my thing, tho. |
