Paint exhaust
 

I was thinking about trying to paint my slip on. I know they sell heat resistant paint for headers. One of my concerns is Aluminum expands and contracts alot more under heat than steel and other metals.
I used to paint alot of aluminum parts when I worked at an Aerospace repair shop. We would just use Dupli Color High Heat out of a spray can and bake it off at 400 deg. So if it worked for turbine helicopter engine parts it should work for the bike.

Im going to take the piece I cut off and do trial and error. Ill keep you all posted.

should work just fine using engine enamel because the temps. of ur exhaust can wont hit high enough temps to expand so u should be good to go....

One other thought. I think black heat tape might look cool with the army green paint.....

u mean like black (exhaust) heat wrap?

if u look through all the pages of f4i pics there is a f4i with its mid pipe wrapped in it... it looks a little ruggish but if thats the look ur going for then that could be just the thing if ur gonna go for a clean look ide steer clear

I painted the mid pipe with high temp engine paint, then the slip on I used regular paint. I figured that the slip on owuld not get 'that' hot. I used primer, color, then several layers of 'satin clear' as a top coat. I did not want it to be too shiney.

How much riding have you done since painting

Went out last weekend for a two hour ride in 90 degree heat, and the slip on looks and feels fine. I was worried that it would feel sticky and run, but so far it loks okay. I will be doing more riding this week and will update if anything changes.

Mine is painted, but I think it is a fiberglass shell. And I think I might have used "engine block" paint so it would take the heat. It's been a year, and it's still perfect.

check to see if you can find a place to ceramic coat it, possibly called jet coating. its a specific coat for exhausts.
