overheating
my 2001 f4i has 56000 miles on it and last week it started running really hot 230...240...248 at most before i shut it down wondering if at this many miles its worth the time to look at everything or just buy a new radiator

Try a change of coolant. Also, is your fan working?
|
flushed the coolant and fan isnt turning on but i took the radiator off today and there is some dents in it and wen i drained the coolant everything lookd fine
|
My radiator is all dented up and I run nice and cool...your radiator is not the problem...your fan is not engaging, and that is your issue...my fan comes on at 220 and the bike never sees past 225. I bet you are only overheating at a stop correct? Cruising you are between 172-200? Replace/get the fan fixed!

no wen i was riding it was running 220-235 never below that wen i stoped it went to 240s
|
Could be a couple things. Easiest to check would be that the thermostat is operating correctly. If its stuck closed, coolant isn't circulating and your bike will overheat
|
ill try that tomorrow thanx

Also look at the earthing point of the fan onto the radiator, this can corrode breaking the circuit. The earthign point is on the top left radiator tab where the fan is bolted to the radiator, if there isn't clean metal on both the radiator mount and the earthing connector the connection will fail and the fan won't work. Sand the radiator tab around where the wiring connector attaches and sand the wiring connector to clean them both up - apply some copper grease to it to improve and protect the connection.

There's your probelm. Your fan should turn on at about 220. |
Fan switch
Don't forget the fan switch sensor. If it's bad, fan won't turn on during a red light...
