Overheating?
 

Hey all, I just recently purchased my first bike, but seem to be having an issue with it. Its a 1999 CBR F4I. I think the bike is overheating, after riding for a while on a warm day, the temp gauge gets about half way up, and the bike will start to stall. The fan IS on when the bike stalls. If I wait a few minutes, I can get the bike to start up again, and as long as I can get to decent speeds it will stay running. At night time when the air is a bit cooler, I don't seem to have any issues.

I am thinking its the thermostat or a sensor, since the temp gauge is only half way up... (let me know if you disagree, I know nothing about bikes) Anyone know of any online instruction manuals on how to change these?

try flushing your coolant also a bike that old if they didnt change the coolant its over due ..and therea thread on here with a link 2 a site with serv manuals ..u jsut gotta take the time and look for it

I think the F4i with fuel injection debut in 2001. I think what you have there is the F4. Keep in mind that that is a carbureted bike and will need the carbs maintained, whether it be cleaning or syncing.

Is it at the warm enough zone that the fan should be kicking on? If not then Id suspect the fan temp switch in the radiator. If so then I bet the fan bearings are going out and when the fan kicks on its drawing too much current and robbing current needed to feed coils and the rest of the electrical system. not that uncommon either. Check your fuse box under the seat and see if it has the correct amperage fuse in the fan slot. The fuse should blow if the fan draws to much current unless someone has put a higher amp fuse in.
