Our rotors - SS or Cast Iron?

Help a brother out, can't seem to find anything on our big brother google...

nickp123 04-05-2011 01:32 PM

i couldnt find anything either but id imagine iron since they do rust and tarnish. I dunno if ss would really do that.

Slick 6 04-05-2011 01:47 PM

I'm really ***sed cuz even with a n interweb as big as the universe nobody wrote something about it!

I ask cuz I'm looking to buy some Carbone Lorraine A3 pads and they're advertised as SS only and I do not want to eat up my rotors.
My EBC HH sucks big time...

My guess would be stainless, they don't rust like iron or steel does. But I could be wrong.

Cast iron will literally rust into big flakey peices given the right conditions. Stainless steel will still rust but it more rust resistant due to a much higher carbon content.

I would think they're made out of stainless steel.

braketech.com has some pretty good FAQs
WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER CAST IRON BRAKE ROTORS OVER STAINLESS STEEL?

EBC HH pad hardly have any negative reviews, please share your issues!

SS go to ebay and search f4i rotors... all will come up as ss inner disks...

Slick 6 04-05-2011 03:41 PM

I think that they're SS too, but just not sure. They don't seem to rust as a normal iron rotor, in fact I never saw any kind of rust in my own rotors...

Regarding the EBC pads, they seem to fade quite a bit on my summer spirited rides and I like to rely on constant stopping power.
Also, I started to feel a bit of a pulse when coming to a stop and checked my rotors runoff and trueing. Sure enough, they're straight as new and after talking to a friend experiencing the same, we thought about it like 2 einsteins :icon_denk: and decided to check the pads itself.
The backing plate is warped, slightly, but still warped...so, in my book they suck.

Stainless... IIRC the rust you see is not the rotor... It's actually brake dust on the rotor that is rusting.

Ok, thanks. I think I'll go with Carbone Lorraine A3+ then.
Anyone tryed them? Thoughts?
