Ororo's bleeding
Looks pretty bad too. Just changed the oil on Monday. Took her for a test ride after and didn't see any leaks. Rode into work today and noticed an oil spot under her. Back at the apartment, there was another in front of the door where I park her.
She didn't leak till the oil change (ugh... Mobil 1 blood is expensive). I checked the drain plug and tighten it but I think she's still bleeding. Only other thing it could be (since it was th only thing touched) is the filter. But the leak is directly under the drain plug and the plug is wet with oil. I didn't overtight the plug or strip the threads. Hand tightened and then 1/4 turn more. Tonight I took the torque wrench to it and put it to spec. Any ideas? |
IIRC there's a crush washer that goes on the drain bolt, but i'm sure you already know that. Maybe replace that??
|
did you replace the crush washer with a new one?
|
No, I didn't. Never had before. Any general auto part store got them? And size?
|
Replacing that washer is SOP. Its a 12mm "drain washer".
|
Bleah, another $45 in oil to Pep Boys. Good news is I got a birthday card from them for some cash off :p
|
$45?!
Well, if you're quick enough, you can probably replace the old crush washer and plug the drain within 5 seconds. My guess is you'd might lose a quart at the most. |
Yep...change out that crush washer..or add it if there is NO one there now! Make sure its aluminum....so it crushes:icon_wink:

Just save the oil in a clean drain pan & reuse it since its still new.
I usually replace my crush washer every 2 changes, on the same schedule as the filter. |
