I need detailed experianced info from others on what they think about buying a f4i with second gear that pops out under hard excelleration. The bike loks very clean and runs good other than the second gear problem. I'm thinking the bike has been abused to have the secong gear problem at such low mileage.

Unless you are an experienced tranny mechanic, walk away.
It will cost too much to make right.
By the time you finish the repair, you'll have more in it than it's worth.

For that price you should be able to get a completely functional bike.
There are too many fish in the sea, I'd move on.

I'd have to agree with Ern, I paid a little more than that for my F4i and it was and still is in immaculate condition and had only 3400 miles. Just keep looking you'll find a good buy.

Thanks for the responses. Really apreciated. Guess I'll wait it out.

2nd gear

What could cause that. Just bought a 01 CBR 600 f4i it does that too.

Maybe the gear itself is worn...Or a clutch problem. I'm not too much of a mechanic but that would be my guess.

No, shift dog is worn or bent. Will only get worse until repaired. Unfortunately the older bikes are a real pain to do. Gotta pull the engine and split the cases to get to all the parts. The RRs have a "cassette transmission" and are ez pleezy to work on. Along with cartridge forks probably among the best advancements made to bikes to make them user fixable :D

yeah, chainstretcher is right on the money.

what i was thinking is that i could offer 2100 then, buy a used motor for around 4-7 and swap it being that ive done it before with no problems.

from what im seeing though, like others have stated, i can find a one hundred percent working f4i for about the same. most of the low mileage f4i's i see for around 2500 range are the bananna seat, which i hate the look of.

Dude, just shift to 3rd and go faster!

Really though, I'd offer him like 1,500. Swapping a motor is a lot of time and time=money. Buy something that works or lowball the hell out of him
