The old CBR600F vs newer CBR600F
 

Hi guys,

I have my eyes set on getting a CBR600F but my budget is not big :( around £1500. I am not sure what to. Should I get the older pre 2001 CBR600f with heavier steel frame and carburettors or save and get more expensive post 2001 with lighter aluminium frame and fuel injected.

Any advice?

Save and get fuel injection. Without a doubt.

Having owned a Hurricane (F1), an F2, and now an F4i, I would vote for a F4i. Its more refined, the suspension is better, and the fueling is WAY better.
But the F2 still holds a place in my heart, its an amazing bike, just not as good as a fuel injected newer bike.

Thanks for the replies guys :) Now what kind of mileage should be a cut off for considering the bike. I have seen quite a few of CBR600F4's with 70,000miles being sold and they still seem to be running

Depends on the owner. My F4i is just over 75,000 miles. I have every reciept for every ounce of fluid, every part, anything thats ever been done to the bike along with the mileage said stuff was done at. Its gotta be 6 inches thick worth of paperwork. I have no hesitation what so ever to take my bike apart with a 10k mile example and compare wear.
That being said, I've seen 10,000 mile bikes that were so beat to crap I wouldn't even want to work on them much less own or ride them.

I guess you are right. It just seems that people are praising the these engine for being rather good.

Now the last thing to choose is either the normal F or the FS. F seems more tempting with a more comfortable seat as a proper pillion seat as well as a centre stand.

Read our F4i super sticky on the differences, but all US models are the sport version even with the banana seat. Sport is worth it for the adjustable suspension and slightly better engine setup.

honestly depends on what you want out of the bike. cant go wrong either way. If you're commuting, then id go with an f2/f3 since they're more comfortable, But only if you dont mind tinkering with them every so often. If you're gonna do more track riding, or dont want to work on it occasionally, then the f4i would be your best bet.

My 2000 CBR600F4 is the year before fuel injected. I'm familiar with carburetor repair so I am glad. Less trouble than injected.

How do you get less trouble then never having to adjust them, rebuild them, or tune them?
