Ok to check oil level while on rear stand?

Will this give an accurate reading or does it need to held level with both tires on the ground? Also when filling I've heard of various methods...some guys just put in everything the manual says to at once..others add 3 qts...run it a bit...turn it off and wait a few minutes and then add...

I've found that if you don't wait long enough and add more you end up over filling as oil that was circulating through motor has not drained back to the pan yet to give you a good reading

What is your method?

I figure the guys that built the thing know how much oil it needs. In my case it's 3.5 qrts. I would have both tires on ground, otherwise only being on back stand will give a false reading leaning forward. The only time I ever heard anyone not using recommended oil capacity were stunters. They overfill it cause they do wheelies alot and the extra oil will be circulated easier.

I put in exactly 3.5 qts and the oil fills my window...over the full line for sure...might drain some out but it is a pita by yourself to check level if you shouldn't use a rear stand

I wouldn't drain any out! Especially if the book said 3.5qrts. Why make more work for yourself.

The manual also says that oil should be at a certain line in the site window (which it isn't..it is filling the whole window) Probably not a huge deal being a little over as just a tiny bit of oil moves the site picture
