Well, the general consensus seems to be that I've wasted good cash on the K&N. The filter I took off was a genuine and I was going to replace it with the same but when I was at the shop I figured **** it, I've always been stoked with K&Ns air filters, why not try an oil filter. Oh well, if it starts dripping I'll get rid of it.

Thanks heaps for the heads up on the recall Gunk. I checked and the one I got isn't from the effected batch. PHEW!!! I had a mini heart attack when I first read your post!

If the bike doesn't get rid of you first. dripping oil = slippery rear tire and bad times. I've heard you aussies are crazy, this confirms it haha

Hahaha. Crazy, but not stupid.

If I see one tiny speckle of oil on the white paper, she's out of there!

You know what my real mistake was, boredandstroked? Not throwing it out there on the forum first so people could give me the heads up on K&N oil filters BEFORE I spent the money! Y'know?

If you are going to use an oil filter with a nut welded on the end, my advice would be to tighten it by hand

I have a buddy out there that skydives for a living. Always posting about diving for lobsters to eat for dinner on the beach. Life is good over there it seems.

I won't lie to ya, mate. It's ****in beautiful out here. Especially here in Perth. The whole west coast is like paradise. You guys have got way more going on over there though. We don't have anything even close to Las Vegas or the other cool stuff you've got over there. We don't even have 24 hour shopping malls!

On the back, in the long list of approvals, look for a JASO-MA (could be labled JASO- MA1 or MA2).

Not all motorcycle oils are for wet clutch bikes, and some auto oils are (mostly diesel oils). Make sure to get the right stuff!!
Is not JASO MA different from JSO MA2? The friction coefficients would probably mean the older oil is slicker than the newer one?

The MA was split into MA1 and MA2 a few years back. MA1 covers one half of the friction test results, MA2 the other. Anything that has tests results in both ranges is listed as MA. They also say that MA2 is safe for cat converters.
