Oils aint oils!
G'day guys and girls
I've read a lot of threads on this forum and I've noticed that almost everybody likes to give an opinion. Which I love, coz I enjoy hearing what people have to say. So here's a perfect chance for you to give one. :) What (in your opinion) is the all-time best, can't-be-beat, top notch, ultimate engine oil for me to use in my 2001 F4i? I'm about to do an oil & filter change and I have my own preferences of course but I'd really like to hear yours. GO! |
I always use a genuine Honda filter (not that expensive if you shop around) and Castrol Power 1 4T 10w-40 Semi Synthetic

The important thing is to get oil that is specified for use with a wet clutch.
On the back, in the long list of approvals, look for a JASO-MA (could be labled JASO- MA1 or MA2). Not all motorcycle oils are for wet clutch bikes, and some auto oils are (mostly diesel oils). Make sure to get the right stuff!! |
I'm new to riding but not to motors. I always do full synthetic in the OEM recommended weight. It saves money in the long run as you can run full synthetic for ~6k instead of ~3k miles with conventional. Semi-synthetic is a good middle ground in terms of performance and cost and it's certainly much better than using conventional.
My $0.02, YMMV. |

Personally I'd rather use a semi and change it every 3000 miles

Thanks for your opinions, guys. I'm aware of the wet clutch Demon, but thanks for mentioning it anyway. I might give your Power 1 a go, Gunk. Is that what you've always used or is it the result of trial and error?

I’ve always used a semi synthetic 10w 40, I just asked at my local independent bike shop years ago and that’s what they put in!
Synthetic is a bit thin for use in an older engine, so it’s a bit of a waste of money, I only do about 2000 a year so it’s changed pretty regularly |
Ahh right. Fair enough, mate.
Hey Demon, what do you use in the 929? |
