Hmm. I don't think we have that one over here in Oz, Demon. I'm sure it's good though.

Anyways, I ended up going with Gunk's Castrol Power 1. Seems like a good quality oil and meets all the requirements so as soon as the rain buggers off I'll see how she feels.

I also splashed out on a K&N oil filter to go with it. Anybody else use these filters?

Yeh I think Gunks spot on, but as regards the K&N Filter that's a whole new bag of worms, sit back and wait for the pros and cons

Personally I can’t see the point of using a non-Honda oil filter, the difference in price is negligible. Check the K&N filter you’ve used is not one of the batch they’ve recalled.

OK I honestly believe oil discussions are a complete and utter waste of time and space, but warning people not to use K&N filters is not. DONT USE THEM. They've layed oil on so many tracks here in the states. Seriously, stop thinking about them.

I use supposedly the best oil out there. Motul 300v for the cbr. I understand it may be overkill but bike runs fine. On aftermarket oil filters I have been using hiflo on the bike over the last year or so and so far so good. I notice that these aftermarket ones specify 10-15Nm of torque where as the oem says 25 No. could this be the reason the k&n leaks? I always torque it to 25Nm regardless of what the filter says...

+1 on the shell Rotella T6 synthetic.

I had a 2003 ZX6R as a track bike for 12 years. I ran the rotella in it. It had about 10,000 track miles on it when I sold it. It still ran great.

I also run it in the 954.

Best out there according to who? Its a rhetorical question, there is literally no factual proof to what you just said, or to back up anyone else's choice in oil. In fact, 300v is probably the worst oil to run in a street bike. It has no detergents and is supposed to be changed once a race weekend, which amounts to maybe a couple hundred miles at most. Are you changing that quickly? Otherwise even a non synthetic will do better over time. AS for K&N's, it has nothing to do with torque, they are just badly made filters.
