oil leaking from the shift shaft
 
02 F4i, got oil leaking from the shift shaft, i ordered the oil seal...has anybody replaced this? how difficult/easy was it? any tips would be great as i have not done this before.

r u sure its oil leaking, and not just chain lube/road debris slopping around?

Never heard of one going bad before....hopefully you can install it without removing the shaft, like a pinion seal on a car.

Hopefully its time for a oil change too.

Maybe you could pry the old one out with a fine tipped screwdriver then tap the new one one with a deep socket.

that's what i was hoping for..we'll see and maybe somebody will chime in to confirm this.

i changed mine bc it was leaking. it was really easy. i took a small flat head screw driver a got the old one out. wiped the shaft with a rag and put in the new seal...really easy

YES!!!...thanks JAM0837, just what i wanted to hear...its a $4.00 part....and i know the dealership will charge at least 1/2 hr for it...save me some money diy

I know this thread is ancient but a friend of mine is having the same problem and i was just curious, do you have to take the cover off to replace the seal?
