Oil crush washer - where to buy?
I have an oil leak, it leaks 1 drop a day and it started after my oil change.
I did not replace the crush washer. I wiped it dry a few times and made sure nothing else is cracked and am 100% sure its the crush washer. Can I buy one at O'reillys or at Autozone or Advance Auto Parts? If yes, what is it called? Do I ask for a 12mm crush washer or what? |
I got mine at the local honda dealer, I think it was $.50 or less.

I get mine from the Dealership but thats just because it is beside my work.
I'm sure they would understand what your talking about if you asked for a 12mm crush washer for your oil drain plug. |
I bought a couple 12mm copper crush washers from O'Reilly last week when I changed my oil. They seemed a little big, so when I tightened down the drain bolt I made sure the washer was centered before I gave it that final crank. I've put on about 100+ miles or so since the oil change and some of those were on the Dyno, still no leak yet.

Thanks everyone, there's an O'reillys near my work, will check them out today.

Any autoparts store should carry them. Just ask for a 12mm crush washer and tell them what it's for if they are confused.

I got the 12mm copper washers from O'reilly.
The washers have a flat side and a curved side. Someone told me mybe I put on the washer incorrectly thats why I got the slow leak. Which side goes towards the oil pan? |
The whole point of a crush washer is that it MUST BE ALUMINUM! Thus it can "crush" and seat correctly upon torquing down...if you just went and bought a regular old 12mm washer then dont wonder why you are leaking oil...oh and dont trust muppets at auto stores..

Has anyone tried one of those quick-drain type plugs where you flip a lever or push and turn to drain the oil without actually taking the plug off?
Like these. I saw one the other day at the autoparts store and thought it might help make oil changes a little easier. |
