oil change

Hey guys, I'm changing my oil tomorrow and I was just wondering what oil you all use, the bike shop near me has a few and IDK what one 2 go with.... I'm not really sure what's in there now because the PO had no clue... I've always had good luck running synthetic oils.

there are many threads on this very subject. the main thing is that the oil you choose needs to work with wet clutches. look for JASO-MA on the back label. most sport motorcycle oils meet the standard. everyone has their favorite for their own reasons, but we all agree that YOU SHOULD NOT USE CAR OIL in your bike, unless it's rotella t6.

Motorcycle Oil and Filters

There is a link in this article for a longer article about oil.

I use either Shell Rotella T6 or Castro 4T motorcycle oil (if I can find it>Walmart used to have it for like 2.00/qt).

Good luck.

since when is there something wrong with car oil that is not "energy conserving" on the API label?

Not being labeled "energy conserving" does not guarantee that it meets JASO-MA standard for use wet clutches.

Front labels are lies, the truth is on the back.

If you haven't already made your choice... Honda GN4 is factory Honda oil that comes in the bike originally & is recommended in your owner's manual. Another good option is Rotella T & its available at most every walmart... Attachment 43296 .

Rotella is good stuff. I use T6 in my bike. Used to laugh at my buddy who would buy Amsoil at 45 dollars for 4 quarts or whatever it was and I was paying about 20 for my Rotella.

I use Amsoil. i get it through a buddy for $9 a bottle. its pricey but its worth it
