OEM CCTL Adjustment
I read through the entire CCT thread and watched a few videos on youtube and stumbled across one guy who talks about adjusting the OEM CCT screw at the top to decrease the ratteling noise.. is this true? Could I do this to temporarily aleviate the noise until my new one shows up?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGr9aMAg6dU (1:00 in) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqnfS...eature=channel (2:39 in) He talks about the CBR tensioner and that all you really have to do is (with a short phillips head) go down and turn it counter-clockwise and it will move back in place. Any insight would be awesome, thanks guys. |
He also talks more about the adjustment closer towards the end of the second video as well..

Its actually a small flat head that u use to turn tension lifter counter clockwise. im gonna try this first to see if it fixes my rattle problem before buying a part that im questionable on
|
The video makes sense...but I gotta say I would be surprised if it was as easy as that...
|
Im thinking the same thing.. I'm sure someone would have pounced on that if it was that simple..
What do you think he means by turning it clockwise till it clicks.. then turning it counter clockwise till it is snug? |
If it were me and I had my bike tore down that far, I would simply go ahead and replace it. I'm thinking when I replaced mine last year it was like $75 for everything...The tip on the end wiggles a little bit, the part actually doing the pushing, and I wonder a bit about how long that will last anyway, or in other words, how long until it breaks off from all the vibration. Just my opinion though I cannot remember if it had a little screw holding it on or if it was a roll pin.

Well I put a new oem one on last year and noticed the tip wiggled, and
I took a punch and put a dimple on the sides by the tip and it snuged it right up. Then about 4k miles it started making some noise so I took it out to check and see if the tip was loose and it wasn't. I put back in and had a little noise at 4k rpms so I did like this video and it was kind of a pian to do but it seemed to work so far 2k more miles. We'll see how long it last. |
ive got a bolt in the end of mine...what causes the rattle is the little thing inside backs out under pressure...so what the bolt does is it puts pressure on it so it cannot rattle. Works perfect for me!
|
how much longer of a bolt do u put in the tensioner over the orginal bolt?
|
eh..i dont remember. I think it might be an inch and a half-ish..lol
jared wrote a how to on another forum, but i cannot find it anymore. |
