Octane Rating for the 600F4i

Hi, I bought a 2002 CBR600F4i a few months ago and the person who sold it to me did not have the owner's manual. I forgot to ask him about the octane rating for the bike and started filling it with 89 octane gas. I just read a few forums that said that the bike doesn't need anything more than an 86 octane rating. Does putting in a higher octane rating fuel hurt the engine in anyway? Does it benefit in any way or is it just a waste of money? And is there any harm in switching to lower octane gas now? Should I drain the tank before switching?

Thanks in advance,

ya i resurrected an old post about that haha :)

well you don't need more than 87 if it doesnt ping or act weird
and it's better for the bike as you don't want it to run too rich

After 2 fillups I usually add Chevron Techron Pro-Gard FI cleaner and put a little bit in it.

I believe my Owners' Manual calls for 86 or 87 octane. I use 89 octane.
