Take a MSF course ASAP. Buy riding gear -- helmet, gloves, boot, jacket, leather or thick denim pants -- and wear the stuff every time. Remember the 600 you got will smoke any of the old 1000's so maybe it isn't the ideal first bike but it is light with great handling abilities. Take it slow and don't kill yourself.

And congrats on the bike -- post up some pics when you get a chance.

A lot of experienced riders would agree that staring on a 600 is a bad idea. Basically because they don't really reinforce basic handing; and are therefore not condusive to learning how to ride right. They are very torquey, and accelerate quickly; equally powerful and sensative brakes.

I started on a 600, but I had some experience behind me. Not a good choice for somebody who's NEVER been up on two wheels.

+1 on MSF. www.msf-usa.org

I'm in your shoes. I got my F4i on the 7th of july. I've had some experience with atv's and stuff, but nothing as powerful as this. Thanks for the pointers. I'll see you on the street.

My F4i is my first bike as well, just got it on the 13th. The thing is awesome! For those who do not recommend starting out on a 600, what do you suggest?

They don't care how long you have been riding if you got the money you can take the course.

I started on a 600 F4. If you have a good head on your shoulders and ride with in your limits I don't think there is anything wrong with staring with a 600.
