New owner with some questions

Well, I'm a new F4i owner. I just picked up this 03 F4i a week ago (pics in the F4i picture thread) and I'm trying to 'get to know her'.

A few things I've got questions on: 1) mirrors. All I can see is my biceps. On the other bikes I've had, I've heard other people complain, but haven't had the problem as much myself. And, on those other bikes, it seems there is usually a 'go to' mirror, like a mirror from another bike that just has a longer stem but fits the mounts. I've searched, but haven't found such a thing for the F4i...anyone got any tips?

Also, because this bike has such low miles, I'm basically going to be starting out fresh on maintenance and break-in, and wondering if anyone had any tips here.

I'm trying to hold off going crazy on accessories, but man it is hard! I've found my old tank bag is really too big, and now I'm thinking a set of soft saddlebags would be nice, and maybe a windscreen with a bit of a flip up to it...

sounds like you might have shorty's, which is basically rear view mirrors that are shorter then the original ones, i have them too, i just move a little when switching lanes, i like em better for lane splitting.. Just adjust them as much as you can or just buy the original ones that are longer.

Is that like the longer ones came from one year bike and the shorter ones from other years?

Also, I like your white paint job!

Judging from your pics, they look like the OEM ones to me.
I would try some different angles on them (like down and out), and if they're truly too short... check ebay for some hugh jass ones. :)

I wouldn't say anything special.
I always like to change the oil when I first get a vehicle just because I don't know how old it is, how many miles are on it, or what oil it is.
Other than that, just the usual stuff like chain adjustments/clean/lube, make sure fluids are topped off, etc, etc. Normal stuff. You didn't say how many miles it has, just that it's "low".

Unless you got her with 0 miles I'd say it's already too late to worry about the breakin. Bike is 4 years old now. She's set in her ways ;)

I thought the same about the mirrors for a while. Then I figured it was my lane positioning. I'd see nothing but my biceps too (great ego boost) when I stuck to the middle of the lane. But in either the left or right third I have 0 problem seeing what's behind me

Well, the bike had 600 miles on it, so hopefully she's not too set in her ways (since those ways are apparently "sit in the garage and weep lonely tears...")

I think the mirrors are original, I was just hoping there would be a common swap to a different mirror (like on my FJR, a lot of guys put the mirrors from an FZ1 on because they have a longer shaft)
