New owner - ignition issue.

Hi there

I bought a 2002 600F super cheap from a mate who wanted rid. I knew it would need some work which was fine, and was looking to learn a bit about general mechanics. Stripped the body work down, changed oil and battery. When I tried to start, nothing. With a bit of elimination worked out the ignition relay switch was corroded so ordered a new one and happy days, the bike now turns over. However, it wouldn't start so presumed that a change of plugs would be next. However on the second time of trying, no start so switched off the ignition but the bike kept turning over! Took keys out, and still it kept going. In the end had to disconnect the battery. At this point my knowledge stops, so wondered if anyone had an idea on what could be causing this?

thanks

Would take a look at that ignition switch you put on, check the wiring, engine stop and starter button

Thanks. The relay is a simple 2 wire connection, so maybe stop / start is a good call. Forgot to say the problem is intermittent, sometimes takes a few goes to get it to happen.
