New Chain long
Hi,
I just put on a new chain and sprockets 520/108 & 16/46T and adjusted the slack. The chain indicator is in the middle of the blue marking - way past the 'New' Anybody see this before? Why would it be like this. I'm thinking first adjustment it'll be on 'Replace' |
Take a link out. What brand chain?
|
I understand your concerns butif your chain is adjusted correctly, wheels aligned, then I wouldn't worry.
Your sprocket choices are standard I presume ? |
It's JT sprockets and chain. 108 links
If I take out a link, I don't think it'll fit. Just curious where a new chain sits on the wear indicator from others |
Take what the indicator says very lightly. Once you change the chain and get into sprocket changing , all accuracy of that little sticker goes out the window.
Check every link for play frequently. When you find some, usually in the master link, it's time to replace it. |

That's funny, its literally the opposite for me. Check links for binding/hard spots, replace then. If they move freely like new they are good to go.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the sticker. You obviously know your chain and sprockets are good.
If you pull the chain too tight then the adjuster will show more "wear" than normal as well. The chain is supposed to have a little bit of slack. |
Don`t worry about it, when I fitted my new chain and sprocket set I fitted a new sticker then after a few miles later checked the slack and adjusted it again.
The new mark immediately went offline. If you want you may remove the sticker and glue it back to the "new" mark on the new chain set, job done. |
