New Bike - 01 F4i
 

Hey guys I just got my first bike. It's a beautiful 01 F4i! The previous owner installed a quick acceleration sprocket kit in it. I believe it changed the gearing and makes it rev higher. I love the increased lower end torque of the bike, but I have concerns because it cruises at 7-8k at highway speed in 6th gear, when most people say theres is at 4-5k with the OEM kit. Is it rougher on the engine cruising at this rpm, or should I not even worry about it? Cheers :icon_beerchug:

Stock 50mph is right at 4000rpm. I cruise to work at 90mph everyday and its at 7500rpm, so it sounds like you have stockish gearing. If you like it, don't worry about. It won't hurt the engine.

Quick acceleration sprocket means you'll get to redline faster, the engine isn't working as hard to pull the bike. You lose a little top end speed though. No free lunches.

I had -1 +2 gearing for a couple years no harm whatsoever. In fact if you're religious about oil changes, because of the gearing (unless you have a speedo healer) your oil intervals will come sooner which is a good thing because the crank is turning over more.

I could keep up with the liter bikes either way except when there was clear road ahead, but I worked way more with that gearing setup and went back to stock.

Thanks! I haven't tried OEM but I love this gearing. She cruises a little higher then yours, more around 7k at 70mph. This is my first bike and I couldn't be happier, she is so smooooth.

Will definitely keep an eye on the oil. How is stock gearing compared to the -1 +2, is there still some torque in the lower end, or is it all up top?

I have a map in the PC3 that smoothes out the torque curve. But she wails like hell around 8k and up.

I have no map or PC3 and my torque curve is still smooth as sh*t and miles better then any 600RR I've ever ridden.
