New '03 CBR F4i battery or starter problems?
First day I picked up my '03 from dealer with seven miles on her,
had it delivered to my garage, rode around for a half hour
and accidently ruined my battery. I had stopped for 5 - 10 minutes,
turned off engine, (via engine kill switch) with iginition in on position
which killed the battery! Dealer then attempted to recharge it - ran it
through two cycles but it died again!
So dealer gives me a new battery. This evening I go practice in a lot,
and accidently stall the engine. I shifted to neutral or first, then pressed
the starter and NO juice? Did I destroy the second battery when stalling
the engine or is this a defective starter?
HELP?

sounds like something is shorted out on the bike draining the battery. there is no reason it should be getting sucked dry that fast. I would say since the bike is brand new with like no miles from a dealer I would call them up and say that they should go over the wiring on the bike. I know here is PA we have a lemon law if anything is wrong from the factory they have to fix it

My buddy has an '03 and whenever he putts around with the high beam on it kills the batt. My mechanic told him that it is a known issue with them and if you let it rev below 3k RPM's for a while and use the highs (downtown riding, practicing in a parking lot) it will kill the batt, cause the bike doesnt charge the batt below 3k RPM's.
I know that on my VFR with the highs and the engine fan running together for about 3 min, it will kill the batt too. There is a "courtesy" recall for that though. Not sure if its the same issue, but I read about bikes plenty and I have yet to run across any documentation of a recall for it on the RR's.
Hope that helps...

i've heard that there are some very random gremlins in the electrical to this effect -- i've only had it happen twice in 3 years. after a short ride, and a short sit, there is no response from the starter (and you're thinking "dead battery?"). but if you bump start it, all is well and it may never happen again.

Is there any harm done to the bike by bump starting?

most responses will tell you that bump starting is a bad idea, but sometimes it's all you've got. i'm no mechanic, so i can't tell you exactly what effect it has on the engine, but a google search has left me with no idea of what (if any) damage could be possible from bump starting.
