Need some assistance here
 

I have a 02 f4i that I bought from a guy who wrecked it, so I have a couple questions ending with a really retarded question.

One question is about the subframe. the frame is straight and true, but when the bike went down the little aluminum washer-looking thing that is welded on and accepts one of the fairing bolts was knocked off. I obviously don't wanna buy a whole new subframe, but where would I get that little threaded disk to weld back on?

Second question. I'm about 215 lbs. How to I adjusts the rear suspension, and which setting would suit my weight? I tried just to turn it, but that didn't work.

Third question. This is the really retarded one. I had my friend mess with the bike while I was at work. It had a dead battery that I asked him to charge and try and start the bike while I was gone. He didn't want to wait for the charge so he connected it to a car battery. But it gets worse. He connected the car battery BACKWARDS (neg on pos, pos on neg). He broke something. I work on old cars. So I know nothing about electrical. But after charging the bike battery I connected it up, and nothing happens when you turn the key. no lights, no priming, nothing. I checked fuses...those were good. What the hell did he do to my bike!!?:icon_shrug:

I sense more than one retard in this case..,,:icon_wink:

1. Goto a hardware store and find a metric nut that matches the fairing screw, then weld it onto the frame, i suggest having someone who knows what they're doing do the welding. OR just ziptie it.

2. There is a special C wrench (honda tool) to turn the dial on the spring. Some just use small channel lock pliers to adjust it. Give a quick shot of WD-40 to losen it up a bit to make it easier to turn.

3. Using a car to jump start a bike a big NO-NO. You could probably get away with it if the car was off, but if the engine was running, your buddy most likely burnt your wiring harness to hell. You can fry your harness even if the terminals were hooked up correctly, so the fact that he hooked them up backwards :icon_doh:..........hard to say whats burnt out in there...

I shouldn't have let him mess with it.
He told me that he just grabbed one of the batteries on my shelf and hooked some cables to it.

I checked out that post. Looks like he could get power, but not to crank the engine. I have nothing. As if there is no battery. I learned my lesson though...don't let your buddy touch your stuff while you're not there. Oh well.

And I thought about welding a nut on the frame, but it's aluminum and nuts are steel.

Haha thats why I suggested to find someone who knows what they're doing.

now for the subframe. I still don't understand what you mean Sick about the finding someone who knows what they're doing. You can't weld steel to aluminum. I'll have to cut my own disk from an aluminum slab and drill it out and tap it, then weld it in. should work. I may suck at electrical, but i can weld like a pro.

I guess I could use some of those bimetallic strips that has the aluminum on one side and steel on the other and it's prebonded in the middle. waste of money though.
