Need help!

so i painted my bike and when i went to put the fuel pump back in i accidently broke one of the bolts that hold it in.

has anyone ever experienced this before and if so how did you go about fixing it.
or does anyone have any good ideas on how i should fix it.

i was thinking about drilling the rest of the bolt out and just using a bolt and nut combo?

broke a bolt?... over torqued?

Have you tried an easy-out?

jonld 02-02-2010 07:22 PM

Easy out is going to be your best solution. If that doesnt work you can attempt the drill but will most likely end up needing to drill it out larger and re-tap it.

it is not a threaded hole. it is a bolt that is welded to the tank.

Got some pics?

This post made me say, "Yup, it's hit that point where CBRForum will no longer be of any help, and the dealer will need to be called"

AHH HA HA HA Zero1080 is so right, i appreciate everyone trying to help. But if you have no clue what you are talking about then why do you even post. It seems that some people post just to increase their membership level.

Oh well i am talking it to a buddy today that can take it out and i think i will just use a nut and bolt. I am not one of those guys that are crazy about torque setting and everything, but whoever put this on last time over torqued the SH!T out of it.

You said you broke a bolt and were thinking about drilling it out. I didnt picture the f4i tank in my mind as I work on alot of different bikes. Eitherway you might want to rethink your approach when you go cutting down the people trying to help you. Most of us have been around awhile. If your going to drill a hole to use a bolt and nut, then weld the bolt in so you or the next guy doesnt have to fight with it the next time the fuel pump needs removed for whatever reason.

just here to increase my membership....

that is all

but good luck with that bolt

ars1986 02-03-2010 07:01 PM

naww man i am having a guy helix coil it (sorry if i spelled that wrong) so i do not have to mess with it, just thread a new bolt in. i was not trying to cut anyone down, but i did post it in the F4i section hence it is an F4i tank. it just seems like someone would have better input.
