My bike hates me

My bike hates me
So I decided to change the air filter on my 2001 F4i. You know, put in a nice K&N, make by bike happy. Easy right? No. Aside from getting major cuts on my fingers, I managed to strip the threads in the hole that attached the seat to the bike (not quite sure what the official name is). Now the bolt is half way in and turns, but does not go anywhere. I need help, please. The only thing I can think of is to cut the bolt, but then how would I replace the nut (I guess I can call it that) that the bolt screws into on the frame?

ok this is what you have done. you have stripped the thread so now there is no threads for the bolt to walk out od the hole on. this is what you have to do. get a claw hammer and hook the claw on the bolt then pry up on the bolt while you unsrew the bolt. it will come out then you will have to use a bigger bolt to reuse the bracket.

If you are really lucky, you stripped only the threads on the bolt as opposed to the hole, or if less lucky you only stripped out the half of the threads in the frame. If that is the case, you should be able to go buy a new bolt and it will be ok. Once you get the bolt out you will be able to tell.
That seat bolt is not a stressed part, unlike a caliper bolt, engine mount, etc. If the other side is nice and tight, and you can get the stripped one in relatively snug, I wouldn't stress retapping the hole too much. Like I said, once you get it out you can tell. If you look in the hole and see nothing but nice shiny, smooth surfaces, you will need to retap...you could also get a smaller bolt, and put a nut underneath the frame...
