menacing problem! what is it?

Anyone have this problem with their 2003 F4i? The speedometer and all indicators on it wont work nor will the tachometer. Bike will either stall if your riding when it happens and if it does it will not start back up. Now I put the key in the ignition turn it on, it then makes that little noise that it is supposed like its cycles through the speed and rpm's even though visually you see nothing happening. You try to press the button to ignite the engine and the light dims for a second and either absolutely nothing happens OR sometimes it makes a rappid fire noise near the rear tire! I got it towed ****in twice in the last 2 weeks first time they got it to work by tightening the battery cables at least they claimed, andtodayI got it back they said they put a brand new battery in. I rode the bike for about 75 miles and it happened again. Only this time before it started to happen it showed the reserve fuel was at 4/4ths fuel but I just put like$8 in gas in it just like 25 miles ago which I thought was weird. I knowthis was a long email but just wanted togive you ALL the facts I could to get a accurate answer! Anyone that hashadthis problem please reply! Thanks

Jump the bike from your car, or bump start it. What your describing as a rapid fire noise is the starter solenoid trying to engage. You may have a stator problem (the battery isn't charging), or you've gotten a bad battery. You have definitely described an electrical problem.

Mine wasn't like that at all. Mine didn't even turn over nor did my dash lights come on. It could definitely be the stator on yours. My buddy had this happen to him and he want through 4 different batteries cause they said it could have been a batch of bad batteries...

Got a weak connection somewhere it sounds like. Pull apart all the plugs and lube them up. See my post here:

I've had so many horrible electrical problems with my bike. All of them fixed with dielectric grease and a new battery.

these 3 pictures are worth a thousand words!

If you see this, then it is not normal! The bike thinks the front fairing is disconnected... the bike will stall, you will break down, you'll be stuck... the fix?

http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~vp230799/bikefix2.jpg

you don't actually have to take off the fairing to reach the harness. disconnect it (circled) and lube it up!

circled is the grounding pin. if it looks ****ty and brown, then get some di-electric grease. problem solved.
