Default Melted gauge: A warning to F4i owners (and others)

Well it happened. My Puig db dark smoke wind screen melted my gauge cover, and I've been so carefull too. A couple of weeks agoI had a Dr.'s appointment in another city about1.5 hrsaway. I left the bike on the shaded side of the building which I thought was the north sidebut I mis-judged the sun's direction of travel. Ironically, It was oneof thefew times I didn't back into a spot.
Here is the result.

It may not look like much but the raised ring around the tach is quite distorted. For thoughs of you who don't know, you mustn't allow the sun to shine toward the underside of the wind screen. The sun's rays will be focused into a narrow beam which will be cast downward toward the gaugesmuch like a magnifying glass, then, if exposure is long enough the above picwill be theresult.

Damn bro hate to see that but thanks for the heads up. But you know that you can get just the bezel and replace just that right?

where was the sun's position that caused this to happen? i'm assuming you had the nose pointed toward the sun...

Noactually, the sun was directly behind the bike. the effect can only be caused if the sun's rays fall on the interior side of the windscreen. Directly above or toward the front of the bike is safe.

04 CBR, I already have a replacement coverin the works, and a local tint shop tells me they can apply a certain film to the inside of the windscreen that will eliminateproblem and not change the look of the screen. Hahahaha ya, I'm fussy

yea i have a burn much worse on mine, luckily it wasnt on the guage itself but on the grey around it and not close enough to anything to distort it, mine is probably a good 2 or 3 inches across

I always lay a rag over my my gauges if its outside..Cheap insurance..But i have since taken my Puig DB off(look good on the bike but actually made my wind worse on my highway rides.

Ended up taking it off and getting a zero gravity touring shield(fit like stock and a LOT less wind than the DB on the highway-plus getting it on clearence from zero gravity for 25.00 didnt hurt either) It just doesnt look quite as "mean" as the DB.

I'm unclear as to your meaning. I'm not upset about the damage, it was my fault, and on the grand scheme of things it is quite minor. Or do you mean this wasn't worth posting as a warning?
Twiztid I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm simply curious.

I hear ya! I usually have a micro fibre cloth in the trunk I use, I've even chanced it and left my gloves as protection before. Oh well, **** happens.
